Conditions For Tier 1 Work Permit(HSMP)

The UK Highly Skilled Migrant Programme (HSMP) has been very successful since it was introduced on 28 January 2002. The HSMP has been replaced by Tier 1 (General), part of the UK's new five-tier points based system.

Tier 1 (General) is very similar to the previous HSMP. English language requirements are more stringent under the new HSMP replacement visa, along with maintenance requirements (savings/funds).
Holders of tier visas at this level are permitted to live and work in the UK, seek and undertake employment, set up a business or become self employed as they see fit.

The HSMP Tier 1 Visa is a points-based 75 points immigration scheme. Points are scored in four main areas:

1. Qualification* (Maximum 50 points)

PhD - 50 points
Masters Degree ( MBA, MSc or MA) or (Chartered Accountant) - 35 points
Bachelors Degree (eg BA, BSc) - 30 points

2. UK Qualification 16 years - 5 points No UK Qualification - 0 points

3. Earning Power* (Maximum 45 points)

HSMP earning power requirements
Please state below recent earnings in UK Currency. You will gain 5 to 45 points under this HSMP category depending on earning power and Country of residence. If the work experience was in the UK you will gain an additional five points. Please go to the international currency convertor if you wish to convert to UK currency.

4. Age* (Maximum 20 points)

27 or under - 20 points
28 or 29 - 10 points
30 or 31 - 5 points
32 or older - 0 points

5. English Ability

IELTS 6.5 Band - 10 points

6. Maintenance

Applicants will be required to score 10 points by proving they can support themselves and any dependants.

Please note that if you tick the last option of any of the following a to f you will not be granted entry on the basis of HSMP to the UK.

You must be proficient in written and spoken English Language You are not proficient in English - not eligible

You can support yourself without claiming benefits from the Government. You will need to demonstrate this on the basis of either savings or earning potential You are unable to show that you will have sufficient funds in the UK to pay your living expenses there - not eligible

You intend to make the UK your main home You will continue to spend most of your time outside the UK - not eligible

You have either never been made bankrupt or are considered to be a discharged bankrupt If you are currently bankrupt - not eligible

You have never been convicted of any criminal offences You have been convicted of a criminal offence - not eligible
