Malam
Jabba is home to the only ski resort in
Pakistan. The area also contains two
Buddhist stupas and six monasteries that
are scattered around the resort. The presence
of the monuments at such a height indicates
that the area has been inhabited for over
2000 years.
Gilgit has an area of 38,000 square kilometres (14,672 sq mi). The
region is significantly mountainous, lying on the foothills of the
Karakoram mountains, and has an average altitude of 1,500 metres
(4,900 ft). It is drained by the Indus River, which rises in the
neighbouring regions of Ladakh and Baltistan.
The
Malam Jabba Ski Resort, owned by the Pakistani Tourism Development
Corporation, had a ski slope of about 800m with the highest point of the
slope 2804m (9200 ft) above sea level. Malam Jabba Ski Resort was the
joint effort of the Pakistan government with its Austrian counterpart. The
resort was equipped with modern facilities including roller/ice-skating
rinks, chair lifts, skiing platforms, telephones and snow clearing
equipment

Antimony, Graphite, Alum, Coal, Copper, Barite, China Clay etc. It is
estimated that almost 95% of the precious & semi-precious stones located
in Pakistan are found in Gilgit Baltistan.
At
an elevation of 1453.90 meter lies the Gilgit
valley, offers spectacular scenic beauty.
It is surrounded by lakes, rivers, glaciers
and high mountains ranges. Some of them
world's largest peaks, such as Nanga Parbat,
8125 meter and Raka Poshi, 7788 meter are
located here. The best season to visit is
from May to mid October. The local dialect
is Shina, however, Urdu and English are
also spoken and understood.
